The Success Story of the International Conference on Global Education and E-Learning – GLOBED 2017

The International Conference on Global Education and E – learning (Globed 2017) was successfully held from 10th – 11th October, 2017 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The Conference was organized by The International Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM), Sri Lanka with the collaboration of University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka under the theme “The Digital South and North: Spaces, Mobilities and Practices” .

The opening remarks of 2017 were made by the Conference Convener Mr. Isanka P. Gamage (Co-Founder & Managing Director – The International Institute of KnowledgeManagement (TIIKM), Sri Lanka) and Conference Co -chairs ,Dr. Lesley Gourlay (Head of Department, Culture, Communication and Media, University College London, London) and Dr. Rohana Basil Marasinghe (Director of the Staff Development, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka)

The keynote forum was consisted with three keynote speeches. The first keynote speech was delivered by Mr. Imran Vilcassim (Former Director Channel Sales, Microsoft Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka)

The second keynote speech was delivered by by Dr. Sunil Jayantha Nawaratne (Senior Advisor to the Minister, Ministry of Social Empowerment and Welfare, Sri Lanka) under the topic  “21st Century Oriented Graduates or “Full-Option Graduates” with special attention to On-Line Education with Global Orientation”

Final keynote speech on “Educational technologies and engagement: sociomaterial perspectives” was delivered by Dr. Lesley Gourlay (Head of Department, Culture, Communication and Media, University College London, London)

Globed 2017 provided a solid platform for over 50 researchers, stake holders and policy makers from across the globe representing 15 countries to share their research findings with one another and to discuss the policy implications in Gobal Education. The countries are India, Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Ghana, United States.

The conference comprised of five technical sessions and a poster session during which researchers from around the world presented their research findings. The technical sessions as follow.

  • Technologies and Student Engagement

Special workshop on “Researching Student Digital Engagement” was conducted by Dr. Lesley Gourlay (Head of Department, Culture, Communication and Media, University College London, London) parallel to the conference which was a great opportunity to the participants to enhance their subject knowledge with the practical exposure.

All accepted abstracts will be published in the conference abstract book with ISBN. All full papers will be accepted through a double blind reviewed process and will be published electronically with ISSN in proceedings with a DOI Number (DOI prefix: 10.17501).

We will submit the proceedings to be indexed in the Thomson Reuters, SCOPUS, Mendeley, Google Scholar and CiteULike for possible Indexing.
